InCaspary sold the story for a fourth time, this time co-writing a theatrical version with George Sklar. John December 8, at The murder caspafy itself has some really great twists and turns that, while one might guess the culprit, make the journey to the end a constant surprise!
While there are certainly differences between the novel and the movieas there always are, both are equally enthralling.
It is a fantastic read and stands with a handful of others in the genre as one of the best ever written. He was God’s gift to women.
The one person that actually read it said the only thing she disliked about it is that, while the entire thing is told in first person narrative, it changes casary character to character throughout. This is one of my all time favorite mysteries. Caspary spent this period of self-described ‘purgatory’ alternately in Europe and America with her husband, Igee Goldsmith, in order to find work.
Caspary moved to London toward the end of the war to be with her lover, exiled Austrian film producer Isidor “Igee” Goldsmith. I hid my face in my hands, my forehead against the wood of my desk. There’s also a police detective trying to figure it all out who becomes emotionally tangled up in who Laura was. Each of them, of course, hides several relevant secrets, which deepens the mystery, and creates a whirlwind of intense questioning, personal conflic Rating is for stage play.

McPherson is entranced by the portrait of Laura that hangs in the living room of her home, and the more he learns about the laaura, the more his feelings for her grow. She peered into a life, a relationship, a family from an angle that would reveal alternative ways of seeing, of being. Rating is for stage play. This classic mystery-romance is sometimes overshadowed by the magnificent film it spawned a couple of years later, starring Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. The characters are well fleshed out. A few of my friends borrowed it and returned it with the same general “it’s not for me” review.
Laura is often identified, erroneously, as a noir novel, and the lead character as a femme fatale.
I watched the movie first and felt that the twist was not only handled well, but was so deliciously shocking. Instead it is more romantic suspense with large infusion of noir.
