The Detachment

The crises of conscious these man battle are as lethal as the armed enemies they face. It was a sad read. Kudos to Eisler for weaving fiction and plausibility into a taut action thriller.

Character development was very good.

Inhe returned to the Bay Area to join a startup. The read is taunt, moving and intense. They however will have the reader turning pages to see how it all ends, as for me I read the entire book in one sitting on the day I received it. The gay MC is in fact the most ruthless of the four and no kind of stereotype, and I appreciate that.

What follows is a great thrill ride that is guaranteed xetachment keep any reader awake well into the night and perhaps for a good long time thereafter. Puget Sound Business Journal.

All in all it was a modern thriller of the most common type, cleverly done by a writer of talent. Another highlight is the character interactions as they showcase the psyche of each individual which is a bonus for ever Eisler fan to read.


Thanks for telling us about the problem. And although Rain has his limits no women, no children he is a brutal and cold killer. The knowledge that the world barr have been marginally better off if I had never been born.

The book The John Rain series was one of the best of its kind in the early 21 century, but at some point, it lost its way. Detachmrnt is similarly handicapped when it comes to writing tortured romance – John Rain’s plaintive “I can change – I know I can! But the characters were four amoral, slightly conflicted, beasts of men with enough humor and compassion so you could vaguely hope that they would finally make a right decision in their sorry lives.

If you like thrillers with action, terrific plots and great characters then The Detachment is the book for you. Lists with This Book.


With his brand of good ol’ boy humor, remarkable but unexpected smarts and instincts so sharp that he can detect a switch of moods in nanoseconds, he was able to charm from children to kidnapees and stop the other three from killing each other more than once. These men, though you come to like them, are all trained assassins. Thus they set out to finish their tasks not knowing exactly whose goals they are advancing. To add to the mix there’s Dox as well as Treven and this detachment becomes as stable as old dynamite.

The plot has them unite due to Horton’s plan and they truly don’t know whether he’s telling the truth or just playing his games. The Detachment has a self-contained plot however barrh the first book to feature previous series characters of John Rain and Ben Treven together. If it wasn’t mere entertainment fluff it would be really dangerous.

I just read this book I’m ashamed to say.


They’re all ultra-macho and suspicious — typical in their line of work. Eisler lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and, when detqchment not writing novels, blogs about torture, civil liberties, and the rule of law.

This is a major page turner for me, tough I saw plot twists coming a long way off. First, barrry brings back John Rain and Dox. From the beginning, he seemed more settled and the way he handled Larison was shocking.
